Health Alert

Recently we have started seeing Parvovirus infection in puppies in the Newcastle city area. Parvovirus has been higher in the Hunter recently and it now has appeared in Newcastle. Parvovirus causes a very nasty haemorrhagic diarrhoea that makes dogs very sick and is often fatal. If you have a new puppy please do not take it into public places, such as parks, beaches, and even foot paths. Parvovirus is highly contagious and survives in the environment for a very long time, your dog does not even have to see another dog to contract Parvovirus. The only protection against Parvovirus is vaccination. Dogs should be vaccinated every 12 months and puppies need 3 vaccinations and should not go into public places until 2 weeks after their second shot. If you have any concerns please talk to your vet. Or give our team at Cooks Hill Vet Clinic a call: 4925 2999 for advice.
