10 ways to relieve cat stress

May 20, 2015

Stress can play a major role in Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC). Here's how you can help your cat:

  • Create high places & private spaces

  • Create  a refuge where your cat can feel safe

  • Make sure each litter tray is clean & is big enough - at least 1.5 times your cat's body length

  • Place litter boxes in a quiet place far from food bowls

  • Praise good behaviour - don't punish your cat for accidents

  • Give your cat something to scratch. Scratching releases pheromones & makes cats feel happy

  • Keep your cat in shape - overweight cats have trouble jumping

  • Create a play area with toys & other items to keep your cat active

  • Indoor cats can become bored so, make sure they can view the outside world

  • If you have more than one cat, make sure you have enough food, water, litter boxes & safe places for all of them!
