Paxton came in for a routine castration, including pre-anaesthetic blood work. We recommend getting your puppy or kitten desexed at 5-6 months of age. Leaving your fur baby entire can lead to preventable health issues such as Pyometra (infection of the uterus), mammary cancer, and testicular cancer. Performing pre anaesthetic bloods allows us to check the function of your pet’s vital organs, such as the kidneys and liver, which are responsible for metabolising the anaesthetic drugs used during and post surgery. Lucky and Coco both came in for a routine dental scale and polish. It was established that they both had grade 2 dental disease (mild to moderate tartar and gingivitis) during their most recent health check. As a result, a dental scale and polish was performed in order to remove the tartar, and polish the teeth, to reduce irritation of the gums and prevent tooth decay. Animals need to have a full gaseous anaesthetic in order to have a dental. We highly recommend dental preventative techniques in order to maintain good hygiene health, and prevent the need for a dental as long as possible. This includes chewing (for example: high quality chew toys, soft bones, dental diets, dental treats), tooth brushing (using specifically designed pet toothpaste, never human toothpaste, and soft finger or hand held toothbrushes), additives to water (for example ‘Healthymouth’) etc. All of our procedures went really well. Paxton, Lucky and Coco were all very brave. All of the staff were very proud of how well Paxton, Lucky and Coco did, and enjoyed getting in lots of cuddles before they went home to their families.
