Christmas with pets: tips to keep your pets safe this Christmas.

Do not feed your pets Christmas foods!

- Ham is high in fat and can cause gastrointestinal upsets such as pancreatitis

- Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs

- Raw bones can cause obstructions and dental fractures (NEVER FEED COOKED BONES!)

- Christmas desserts often have dried fruit such as sultanas which are toxic to pets

- Other things to avoid are gravy, nutmeg, onion, avocado and alcohol

Always provide a safe and quiet area for your pet to retreat to.

Christmas can be an anxiety inducing time for cats and dogs, with lots of visitors coming through their home. So, it's important to make sure your pet has an area they can go to feel safe and have a break.

Keep Christmas trees and decorations out of reach. Pets may think it's fun to play with Christmas decorations, but a lot of them are fragile and can cause serious harm (including blockages) if chewed on and ingested. Some live Christmas trees can also be toxic to pets, so ensure you do your research, and keep all decor out of reach of pets.

We wish you and your pets a safe and happy Christmas period!
